Diary Of A Frustrated Car Accident Victim:

October 22nd
Today it finally happened.  While driving to work, I was at a stop light when I glanced into my rear view mirror and watched a large truck slamming into me.  Bam!  I couldn't believe it.  The rest is a little hazy but I do remember a police officer stopping and suggesting I go to the emergency room to get checked out.  Before I knew it, I was laid flat on my back with a neck brace on the way to the hospital.  When I go there they asked me a bunch of questions and took x-rays.  Luckily no broken bones.  They told me I'd probably feel sore, and gave me some painkillers to help me get bye the next couple of days. Thank God!

October 23rd
Today I woke up feeling horrible. I decided to take the medication the emergency room doctor gave me but as soon as the pills wore off I still felt awful.  Hopefully I will feel better in a couple of days because I really hate taking these pills.

October 28th
The other guy's insurance company called.  He said the soreness would wear off and then I'd be okay so I might as well settle the case now and put it behind me. I still feel injured so I told him I'd wait. I think he sounded irritated.

October 31st
I told my daughter I couldn't take her trick or treating tonight because 'Mommy's too sore.' She got mad and started crying, so I started crying. Why don't I feel better? This accident's been more trouble than it's worth. I'm going to my M.D. doctor tomorrow. Maybe he'll tell me what's going on.

November 1st
Dr. Smith told me the exact same thing the emergency room doctor did.  He prescribed stronger pills to get me through the day and told me I should try physical therapy.

November 14th
It's been almost a month since my accident and I'm only feeling worse.  I decided to try the physical therapy Dr. Smith recommended.  Hopefully this is the answer I've been looking for.  The insurance guy called again too.  He's still pressuring me to settle the case.  What does he know that I don't?

December 10th
I've done physical therapy for 3 weeks now and I don't think it's done anything for me; even the therapist seems to be confused as to why I'm not getting better.  I'm going to call Dr. Smith and let him know I'm still not better.

December 12th
Today I left Dr. Smith's office in tears.  He told me I should go see an orthopedic surgeon.  I'm supposed to meet with this other doctor in two weeks.  What am I supposed to do in the mean time?

December 13th
The weirdest think happened today.  I was looking through the New Castle County Women's Journal when I saw an article about car accidents written by two doctors from Spinal Specialists of Delaware. I read the article which offered a free evaluation, with no obligation.  I made an appointment for tomorrow. (I think these are the doctors my friend Sarah went to for her car accident injury. I wish I thought of going to see them in the first place.)

December 14th
I met with the doctors who wrote the article.  Everyone at the office was extremely helpful.  I met some of the patients in the waiting room who all said that I was in the right place.  That made me feel a lot better.  The exam I received was the most thorough exam I have ever had. Why didn't they do this at the hospital? I'm going in tomorrow to go over the results of the examination.

January 10th
Sorry I haven't written for so long but I've been feeling so great, I haven't had the time to sit down. Remember the two doctors from Spinal Specialists of Delaware that I saw? Well I felt better almost immediately! And best of all, they did it without drugs or surgery. My new doctors told me it was a good thing I didn't settle my case so quickly. They said a lot of people do that and months later regret it.  Some don't even realize they were really injured until years down the road when they get numbness, tingling, even arthritis!  Thank god I called Spinal Specialists of Delaware!
